Pilar MDRRMO Lista cautions the public on 41.2 °C to 43 °C heat index for Sorsogon


PILAR, SORSOGON. On 22 April 2024, Pilar Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer (MDRRMO) Arnol P. Lista cautions the public on 41.2 °C to 43 °C heat index in Sorsogon.

In his announcement during the flag raising ceremony of the LGU-Pilar family, Sorsogon, Albay, and other provinces in the Bicol Region are currently experiencing high heat index brought about by the continuing El Niño Phenomenon and the on-going Dry Season as per forecast issued by the DOST-PAGASA.

MDRMMO Lista informed the public about the potential health risks associated with high temperatures as he advised the public to stay hydrated, minimize and refrain from unnecessary outdoor activities especially between 10:00 o’clock in the morning to 2:00 o’clock in the afternoon and individuals must stay indoors or in air-conditioned spaces to avoid health related emergencies.

On the other hand, Mayor Carolyn C. Sy-Reyes, MDRRMC Chairman issued a Heat Index and High Temperature Advisory dated April 19, 2024, stating that Face-to-face classes in all levels in both public and private schools in the municipality of Pilar be suspended starting today, April 22, 2024 following the forecast of high-level heat indices.

Thus, the weather condition may result to health-related illnesses and emergencies that may affect the vulnerable population such as the elderly, individuals with certain medical conditions, and the children.

Moreover, the Local Government Unit of Pilar thru the offices of the Municipal Mayor, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management and Municipal Health advised the public to take appropriate actions to safeguard their health to avoid illnesses brought about by extreme hot weather.
