PWDs of Pilar get free services in celebration of NDPR Week


PILAR, SORSOGON- The Local Government Unit of Pilar celebrate this year’s National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) week dubbed as “Promoting Inclusion: Celebrating Abilities and Advocating Access."

The National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week is annually celebrated in the Philippines every July 17-23 as recently declared by President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Romualdez Marcos Jr. to protect the rights and promote respect for person with disabilities.
 
PWD Service Caravan in barangay Salvacion and Inang was held, in which services include issuance of PWD IDs and booklets, orientation on the rights and privileges of persons with disabilities (PWDs), and reorganization of PWD officers.
 
Furthermore, the Office of the Municipal Health Officer led the medical and dental services, while the Office of the Gender and Development distributed free eyeglasses to the PWDs in barangay Salvacion, Abucay, and Palanas.
 
The caravan became a significant step toward improving support and resources for persons with disabilities in the barangays.
Overall, a total of four hundred twenty-three (423) beneficiaries was served from July 6 to July 23, 2024 based from the report of the Disability Affairs Officer Ms. Jocelyn Llona, RSW.
 
This well-rounded community-based initiative is the effort of the Office of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development (OMSWD) headed by Ms. Anilyn Bon, MSWDO and the Office of the Persons with Disability Affairs Officer which aimed at supporting and addressing the needs of the persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the municipality of Pilar. Thus, to promote a culture of inclusion and bring the health care services closer and accessible to the community.
 
Moreover, the celebration successfully concluded with the NDPR culminating activity on July 26, 2024 graced by Mayor Carolyn C. Sy-Reyes and Bokal Nini Ravanilla, wherein participants were able to showcase their talents and skills in singing, slogan, and poster making contest. (Pilar PIO)
