DA RFO 5 conducts Training on Corn Production to SAAD Beneficiaries of Pilar
 
 
          The Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office V conducts two-day training on Corn and Cassava Production and Enterprise Development to SAAD Corn Package beneficiaries on July 5-6, 2021 at Pilar Women's Center.
 
          Ms. Suzette D. Dela Rama, a Licensed Agriculturist/SAAD Corn Technical Staff discussed the feasibility and sustainability of corn and cassava production. Likewise, different techniques and strategies of food handling and safety were tackled by Ms. Eden C. Casihan Food Lab Staff/Master Chef and Ms. Jenny B. Delmiguez SAAD Researcher to ensure safe and good quality production of corn. Cassava and corn pests and diseases and its management as well as the Fall Army Worm (FAW) Awareness and control was also explained by Ms. Jeanidel B. Apogñol.
 
          Part of the Training Design is the actual cooking demonstration and hands-on activities intended to improve their practices and strategies to increase corn and cassava production primarily for food consumption to have additional income during this time of pandemic.
 
          The Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program is a locally-funded program of the Department of Agriculture (DA) which aims to help alleviate poverty among the marginalized sectors of agriculture and fishery.
 
          The Municipality of Pilar under the leadership of Hon. Mayor Carolyn C. Sy-Reyes, being one of the SAAD Program Partners since 2019 is truly grateful to DA for the untiring and continuous support to Pilar Farmers Associations.
 
          Moreover, the main objective of this program is to increase food production and the establishment of community enterprises by providing the appropriate technology, financing, marketing, and other support services for animals, crops, and fisheries to individuals, families/households and organized farmers and fisherfolks , said Emma Miranda, Corn Technician of the Municipal Agriculture Office.
