DOLE and LGU PILAR act on Child Labor, GIP Interns to do the profiling

          The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)- Sorsogon Provincial Field Office started the initial step to act on Child Labor issues as it hold the orientation how to do about the profiling of Child Laborers in the barangays today, July 9, 2021, 9:00AM at Bonifacio Covered Court, Pilar, Sorsogon.
 
          Mr. Mark Francis Llaneta, Child Labor Focal Person discussed the guidelines on the profiling of child laborers which is stipulated in Republic Act no. 9231 otherwise known as an "An Act Providing for the Elimination of the Worst Forms of Child Labor and Affording Stronger Protection for the Working Child, amending for this purpose Republic Act no. 7610, as amended, otherwise known as the "Special Protection of Children against Child Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act". He gives the basis on how to differenciate the so called "child work" from" child labor", that way it won't lead to any misconceptions of Interns and will not result to misleading conclusion.
 
          Likewise, Ms. Edna Gestole, Community Facilitator of DOLE SPFO assisted the interns and orient them with the tool in the conduct of Child Labor Profiling.
Due to the economic impact of Covid-19 pandemic, marginalized children were at risk of falling into any form of exploitation. DOLE with its advocacy to end child labor accross the region, the 100 GIP Interns will be working on the profiling to the barangays to locate the child laborers.
 
          Hon. Mayor Carolyn "Sweet" C. Sy-Reyes graced the activity. In her message, she appreciated the effort of GIP Interns to be involved in this battle against child labor. She urged the interns to stay focused in doing their tasks especially now that child labor elimination initiatives is given importance by the national government. Mayor Sweet also reminded them to be safe by observing health protocols at all times .
