100 Goats to make a difference in the lives of the Farmers: The SAAD Agricultural Intervention

The Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) distributed 80 heads of native Doe and 20 heads of upgraded Buck to Sacnangan Farmers Organization on July 30,2021 at Brgy. Sacnangan, Pilar, Sorsogon.

The SAAD program is a locally-funded project of the Department of Agriculture (DA) which aims to help alleviate poverty among the marginalized sectors of agriculture and fishery.

Pilar's economy is primarily agricultural and the area is suitable for goat raising, the reason why DA-SAAD chose the town as one of its recipients for the program.

The distribution was part of the goat production project of SAAD for CY 2021. The goats are 18 months to two years old and are already suitable for breeding. Goat raising is said to be one of the most simple, low cost livestock production that requires low maintenance because they only eat grasses, leaves, weeds and agricultural by-products.

VM Luis Leosala Jr., wgo graced the activity, extends his gratitude to the organization and to the barangay council for the support given to the program. He was glad knowing that the farmers of Sacnangan will benefit from the project which is going to be a big help to their families in this trying times. VM Leosala is hoping that the goats will be taken cared of to multiply so that Pilar will soon have a goat ranch.

Ms. Marife Duza, Livestock Coordinator also extends her gratitude to SAAD for the technical assistance on animal health with the help of the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist (OMA) headed by Mr. Victor Yee. She also shared the story of one SAAD beneficiary which started from one (1) goat and later on became 38 because of proper caretaking.

Mr. Carlos D. Yuson, the President of the Organization thanked Hon. Mayor Carolyn C. Sy-Reyes, the OMA,BFAW, SAAD, Sacnangan Brgy. Council and the association members who actively participated and attended the event. He made a commitment to take good care of the goats to later on establish a multiplier farm.
