Pilar ZOD Council’s BEST PRACTICE highlights the Provincial WaSH Accountability Conference in Matnog, Sorsogon
 
The Pilar Zero Open Defecation (ZOD) Council attends the Provincial WaSH Accountability Conference in order to share its BEST PRACTICE being an awardee of the Most Improved LGU on MILE HS. The activity was spearheaded by the Provincial Government of Sorsogon in partnership with Sea Oil Foundation and Single Drop Consultancy Services Inc., on October 21, 2021 held at Bistro De Bantique Matnog, Sorsogon.
 
Pilar as the first Municipality that had Zero Open Defecation in the Province of Sorsogon, presented the strategies undertaken to achieve its exemplary performance on WASH and ZOD implementation in Pilar. The conference showcased iWaSH development initiatives in Pilar and Donsol to other Municipalities represented by their ZOD Program Council.
 
The Integrated Water and Sanitation Hygiene (iWaSH ) program works on long-term prevention and control measures for improving health, reducing poverty, and improving socio-economic development as well as responding to global emergencies and outbreaks of life-threatening illnesses.
 
The Joint Program utilized an integrated framework for delivering safe water, sanitation and hygiene. Women and girls and their target communities are the target claim holders. The program will be primarily operationalized at the LGU level (waterless municipalities), delivering safe water, sanitation and hygiene, guided by the principles of resiliency, integrity, access, empowerment, gender equality and rights based.
 
The participants in the said activity are the members of the ZOD Program Council headed by the Mayor of each Municipality and members from the Municipal Health Office, and the Sanitary Inspector.
