Pilar OMAg holds House to House Mass Anti-Rabies Vaccination of Dogs and Cats

PILAR, SORSOGON--In line with the Anti-Rabies Awareness Month Activities, the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist (OMAg) conducts Anti-Rabies Vaccination and Information Education Campaign (IEC) Drive about Responsible Pet Owners and Rabies Awareness on March 18, 2022, 8:30 AM at Brgy. Binanuahan, Pilar, Sorsogon.
 
The OMAg headed by OIC Ms. Marites L. Rebellon, Ms. Marife Duza, Animal Keeper together with the Dog catchers, vaccinators, and Pilar Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) personnel collaborate for a safe and successful conduct of the activity.
 
Duza imparted that this activity is administer to ’Eradicate the possible Rabies infections and to cause awareness to responsible ownership through educating them about the prohibition of unvaccinated stray cats and dogs.’’
 
During the vaccination campaign, BFP personnel assisted the OMAg through walking around the neighborhood with a recorded audio to disseminate the information about responsible ownership and rabies awareness of the residents.
 
Republic Act No. 9482 or Anti-Rabies Act of 2007 is an act providing for the control and elimination of human and animal rabies, prescribing penalties for violation and appropriating funds. Wherein, according to OMAg the stray dogs captured by the Dog Catchers for one (1) day will charge the owner with Php100 as a fine with the grace period of three (3) days. If the owner fails to retrieve their pet/s, it will be placed on the dog impounding area at Juban Sorsogon animal Shelter.
 
Further, based on the inventory of dogs and cats conducted by OMAg last 2021, there are 174 estimated population of pets in Brgy. Binanuahan that needs to be vaccinated.
 
Pet Owner of two (2) dogs Jecyn Mestiola, resident of the said Barangay his impressed of such service to vaccinate the pets,’Marhay man na na-vaccinan ta pag luwas dai na ako magpara-worry na sinda maka kagat o makapinsala baga sa iba.’’ [It is good that (my pets) are vaccinated because if they are outside (our house) I will not be worried about that they can cause threat to the people.]
 
 
 
 
The rabies prevention team of OMAg will continue to invade other Barangays in the Municipality of Pilar.
It is significant to emphasize that a responsible pet owner plays a major role in helping the community achieve a safe and healthy environment for both human and animals.
