LGU-Pilar GAD holds Women's Congress 2023


PILAR, SORSOGON - LGU-Pilar GAD holds Women's Congress 2023- With the theme "WE for Gender Equality & Inclusive Society," the LGU-Pilar thru the office of the Gender and Development (GAD)holds Women's Congress as part of the celebration of the National Women's Month on March 31,2023 held at the LGU Gymnasium, Calongay, Pilar, Sorsogon. Attended by the members and officers of the Women's Organizations of the 49 barangays of Pilar, Mayor Carolyn C. Sy-Reyes, GAD Focal Point Chairperson lead the celebration where it started with a Thanksgiving Mass officiated by Rev. Fr. Gerico Pangilinan.


Hon. Allysa Jen Millano, Chair, Committee on Women and Children, Family and Social Welfare expressed her salute to all the brave women who are facing everyday challenges in life. Highlighting a statement of former 1st lady of the United States, Michelle Obama "There is no limit to what we as women can accomplish," Hon. Millano ended her message urging all women to be empowered because she believes that women can do more and women can make a change.

Cong. Bernadette "Dette" G. Escudero, 1st District Representative graces the activity being this year's Guest Speaker. Cong. Dette voiced out her support having the same objective which is to empower women and to fight for their rights. She emphasized "WE" (from the theme), a word that gave meaning to the collective action and helping one another regardless of gender to achieve a specific goal. She on the other hand applauds LGU-Pilar thru the GAD Office for supporting women associations in the municipality by giving them opportunities to grow as an individual.
Cong. Dette also pledged to give livelihood programs to the women’s federation in collaboration with LGU-Pilar and TESDA.

Likewise, Hon. Carolyn C. Sy-Reyes and the members of the Sanguniang Bayan headed by VM Luis C. Leosala Jr. manifest their all-out support and warm greetings to the women’s associations.
In her message, Mayor Sweet emphasized the importance of being united whatever gender and age it would be. According to her, LGU-Pilar family is always there to support every Pilareño by giving them equal opportunities through the programs and interventions given to the community.
Ms. Jocelyn A. Llona, GAD Focal expressed her sincerest appreciation to the offices and persons who became part of the success of the month-long celebration of the Women’s Month in the municipality of Pilar. The OMHO for the assistance in the conduct of Medical and Dental mission and Blood Donation, OMSWD for the youth activity and for providing rice during the conduct of mobile blood donations. OMDRRM for conducting the Basic Life Support Training, OMHRM for facilitating CapDev Trainings, Tourism for designing and hanging the tarpaulins, OPIO for documenting the activity, and a lot more.

On the other hand, certificate of commendation was awarded to 182 Parent Leaders, 3 LET Passers and 1 successful entrepreneur. Give-aways from the Office of the Congresswoman were also given to the lucky winners through a raffle draw.
Meanwhile, the discussion on Fire Safety, PATAS and BIDA Program happen on the third and last part of the program. (Pilar PIO)
