6, 677 trees planted simultaneously on Arbor Day


PILAR, SORSOGON-  In observance of the National Arbor Day, the Local Government Unit of Pilar thru the Environment and Natural Resources Unit (ENRU) joins the nation in 2-day tree planting activity held on June 23-24, 2023 at various locations within the jurisdiction of Pilar, Sorsogon.

 
Six thousand six hundred seventy-seven (6,677) various types of seedlings from the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) and ENRU Nursery were planted in the barangays of Danlog, Salvacion, San Jose, Pinagsalog, Poctol, Guiron, Esperanza, Lourdes, Migabod, Pangpang, Putiao, and Sta. Fe (Old Dumpsite). Some of the trees planted came from the initiative of Gov. Edwin “Boboy” Hamor under its 7K- Kalikasan Program.
At 7:00 o’clock in the morning, simultaneous tree planting activity begun which was led by Hon. Carolyn C. Sy-Reyes together with Engr. Joshua Avila, MENRU Designate.
 
Municipal Officials, Department Heads, several LGU employees from different offices also joined the activity as well as the uniformed personnel, Department of Education (DepEd), and the barangay councils.
According to Engr. Avila, they have planted narra trees as well as fruit bearing trees such as cacao, mango, guyabano, lansones, santol, kalamansi, pomelo, star apple, sampalok, pomelo, rambutan, langka, and many more.
Arbor Day was observed throughout the nation every month of June by planting trees and ornamental plants. This aims to promote a healthier ecosystem for the people through the rehabilitation and re-greening of the environment as stressed in Proclamation No. 643, s. 2004 that amended Proclamation No. 396, s. 2003.
 
Furthermore, the annual tree growing activity highlights the importance of planting and saving trees in order to build a safe and sustainable healthy environment.
 
As such, tree planting is recognized as one of the most engaging, environmentally friendly activities that people can take part to help the nation in pursuit of a greener and healthier surrounding. (Pilar PIO)
