LGU Pilar Celebrates Elderly Filipino Week with Over 500 Senior Citizens
PILAR, SORSOGON- The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Pilar, Sorsogon, recently marked the Elderly Filipino Week with a well-attended celebration at the Pilar Gymnasium. More than 500 senior citizens from various barangays participated in the event, showcasing the importance of recognizing the contributions of the elderly in the community.
This celebration follows the Proclamation No. 470, issued in 1994 by former President Fidel V. Ramos, which declares the first week of October as "Linggo ng Katandaang Filipino" or Elderly Filipino Week. The proclamation emphasizes the vital role of senior citizens in nation-building.
The event also coincided with Pilar's annual Parau Festival, further highlighting the LGU’s commitment to celebrating both cultural heritage and the well-being of its elderly population.
