LGU-Pilar MSWD administer training on End Local Communist Armed Conflict to BPATs


PILAR, SORSOGON - The Local Government Unit of Pilar thru the Office of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development (OMSWD) in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), and Pilar Municipal Police Station administered series of enhancement skills training and orientation on End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC) to Barangay Peace Keeping Action Teams (BPATs) on May 16-19, 2023 at various locations.

Attended by the BPATs, Kagawad on Peace and Order, several Punong Barangays and PIPSERT-CPG Enforcers, the training was held at Del Rosario Covered Court, Sta. Fe Covered Court and Parau Hall C, LGU Complex, Calongay, Pilar, Sorsogon in three batches.

Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams (BPATs) are community-based organizations in the Philippines that aims to maintain peace and order in the barangay level.

Accordingly, the purpose of the training is to educate BPATs on their roles and responsibilities in governance, equip them with skills on arrest and seizure, and inform them with the provisions of “Katarungang Pambarangay” or the Brgy. Justice System which is peculiar in the Philippines.

During the training, PSUPT Rodrigo Granadillos, retired PNP Colonel shared his expertise on Basic Self Defense and Arresting Techniques.

PSSG Christopher S Lopez tackled Basic Investigation and the First Responders and Crime Scene Investigation. While PCpl Joey M Rodregueza discussed the Role of BPATs in relation to PNP as well as its duties and responsibilities.

Additionally, PSSg Jennelyn B Tolosa talk about Republic Act 9262 or also known as the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act of 2004 and Republic Act 11313 or the Safe Spaces Act (Bawal Bastos Law).

Ms. Edcela A. Gubia, MLGOO-VI on the other hand discussed about the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) and Barangay Peace and Order Council (BPOC).

The training seminar was successfully done through the Pilar Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Council Program of MSWD thru the efforts of Mr. Vladimir Abogado, MADAC Focal Person.

Meanwhile, Hon. Carolyn C. Sy-Reyes commends Peace Keeping Action Teams of every barangay for being responsible peacemakers and for maintaining a peaceful and safe community. (Pilar PIO)
