LGU-Pilar commemorates Rizal's 127th Martyrdom Anniversary


PILAR, SORSOGON- On 30 December 2023, the Local Government Unit of Pilar family were gathered as the nation marks the 127th martyrdom anniversary of Dr. Jose P. Rizal with the theme, “Rizal: Pundasyon ng Kahapon, Isinasabuhay Ngayon,” (Rizal: Foundation of the Past Alive Today).
 
Attended by the LGU officials, Department Heads, uniformed personnel, line agencies, several LGU employees, and barangay officials of Poblacion, the program commenced with the entrance of colors followed by the ceremonial raising of the Philippine flag, and wreath-laying rites held at the Rizal Monument, CNLL Compound, Banuyo, Pilar, Sorsogon. The simple program was hosted by PIO Ma. Annie L. Perete.
Engr. Arthur John S. Garchitorena, Municipal Administrator expressed his appreciation to Dr. Jose Rizal for its invaluable contribution to Philippine history, citing important ideals to ponder and carry on the lessons learnt from his life.
 
Admin Garchitorena on the other hand urged everyone to remember the hero who gave his life for the freedom we have today.
 
Also, a message from Hon. Emmanuel Sia underscored Rizal’s inspiration and emphasized the need of honoring Rizal’s sacrifices and embodying his spirit in the daily lives for the welfare of the nation.
 
Rizal Day was observed annually on December 30, a regular holiday in the Philippines to commemorate Rizal’s execution in 1896.
 
Furthermore, the martyrdom of Jose Rizal serves as a reminder of his steadfast patriotism and his important contribution to the history of our country.
 
The activity therefore concluded by singing in unison “Ako ay Pilipino” as LGU-Pilar family showed its love and respect to the late Jose Rizal. (Pilar PIO)
