LGU-Pilar joins Kalinisan sa Bagong Pilipinas Program
PILAR, SORSOGON- In line with the DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2024-001, the Local Government Unit of Pilar joins “Kalinisan sa Bagong Pilipinas Program” on Saturday, January 6.
The environmental initiative stated under the circular aims to raise public awareness and participation in environmental responsibilities through proper waste management, encouraging local government units (LGUs) to invest in programs on solid waste management and ecological practices and build a recognition system for the cleanest LGUs.
“KALINISAN” which stands for “Kalinga At Inisyatiba Para Sa Malinis Na Bayan” is an initiative of the government under the leadership of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. that brings together various government efforts to ensure a healthy and safe environment by promoting the traditional ‘bayanihan’ scheme.
LGU-Pilar personnel, all barangays of Pilar led by the newly elected and appointed barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials, uniformed personnel, including TUPAD workers, Halina’t Magtanim ng Prutas at Gulay (HAPAG), teachers, students, CSOs and volunteers participated the nationwide simultaneous clean-up drive from 7:00 am until 11:00 am.
Synchronized activities such as coastal clean-up, canal dredging, purging of trees and dismantling of possible breeding places of mosquitoes in coastal areas, waterways, streets, public parks, market, schools, and other public spaces within their areas was successfully done because of the combined efforts of the participants.
According to the office of the Environment and Natural Resources Unit (ENRU), Two hundred seventy-two (272) participants around Poblacion area joined the clean-up activity. It was reported that 75 sacks of waste (1,600 kgs. of residual waste and 1, 000 kgs.) was collected and gathered by ENRU for proper disposal.
Furthermore, OIC Municipal Mayor Luis Leosala Jr. extended his sincere gratitude to all participants who contributed time and effort to the Kalinisan sa Bagong Pilipinas Program in order to preserve and ensure a clean, safe, and healthy environment especially in the municipality of Pilar.
Moreover, the participants expressed their appreciation for being a part of the government's initiative that will help the community, specifically for the progress of the nation as a whole. (Pilar PIO)
