LGU Pilar hosts 2-day Pre-Migration Orientation Seminar administered by DMW ROV


PILAR, SORSOGON- Pilar Local Government Unit hosts 2-day Pre-Migration Orientation Seminar (PMOS) administered by the Department of Migrant Workers Regional Office V (DMW ROV) on May 9-10, 2024 held at the Parau Hall C, 2nd flr., LGU Complex, Calongay, Pilar, Sorsogon.

Pre-Migration Orientation Seminar is one of the programs of the Department of Migrant Workers (formerly POEA), in partnership with the Local Government Unit thru the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) that aims to provide information to prospective migrants and families on the following modules; Preparing Yourself and Your Family for your Work Overseas, Realities of Working Abroad, Recruitment Process: Selecting Recruitment Agencies and Avoiding Illegal Recruitment, Migration Cost and Financing Migration Cost, Stock Taking of Resources, Financial Planning, Gender Equality and Sharing of Family and Financial Responsibilities in the Family, and Partners in the Road to Successful Migration and Reintegration.
 
Atty. Jeena P. Paclibar-Laceda, OIC-Regional Director, DMW Region V addressed all aspects of the employment procedure, such as selecting legitimate agencies and avoiding dishonest recruiters. Thus, DMW plays an important role in the recruitment and deployment of Filipino workers by ensuring that all foreign job opportunities available to all Filipinos are legitimate in order to protect all applicants and Overseas Filipino Workers from illegal recruiters or employers.
Mayor Carolyn C. Sy-Reyes conveyed heartfelt gratitude to DMW ROV for selecting the municipality of Pilar to host the first-ever PMOS in the province of Sorsogon. She emphasized the importance of educating and raising awareness among Pilareños who are interested in working abroad and their families.
 
Moreover, Ms. Ma. Annie L. Perete, PESO Manager-PIO expressed her strong willingness to collaborate with the DMW ROV to make the activity for the OFWs and their families a reality. She also thanked the attendees for devoting time to the seminar, particularly the walk-in participants who come along the way and demonstrated genuine interest to the program.
 
Partakers of the said seminar are returning OFWs, dependents of OFWs, those who wants to work abroad, those waiting for deployment, applicants of Overseas Recruitment Agencies, and OFW Family Circle of Pilar. Divided into groups, participants joined the interactive workshops, with reporting done after the group workshop. Participants also had the chance to share their realizations and learnings from the 2-day symposium.
 
Furthermore, the strong collaboration between the LGU Pilar and DMW strengthens and empowers aspirant migrant workers, present OFWs, and their families, while also elevating and improving Filipino migrant workers' rights and welfare.
