MSWD PDAO holds Mental Health Orientation and MHPSS to Punong Barangays and SK Chairpersons of Pilar
PILAR, SORSOGON- The Local Government Unit of Pilar thru the Office of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development (OMSWD) Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) holds 2-day orientation on Mental Health and Mental Health & Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) at Parau Hall C, 3rd flr. Municipal Hall, Pilar Local and National Government Complex.
The activity was participated by the Punong Barangays and SK Chairpersons of the 49 barangays of Pilar, Sorsogon divided into two batches held on February 15-16, 2024.
LGU-Pilar MSWD-PDAO in partnership with Balik Kalipay Center for Psychosocial Response Incorporated (BKC) and the Municipal Mental Health Team conducted the activity to increase awareness and understanding of the core concepts, principles, and legal frameworks on mental health and psychosocial support, and to identify areas for the improvement of Barangay Local Government Unit’s Health Plan and MHPSS referral system.
A productive discussion was done using interactive power point presentations and group workshop wherein participants were able to gain knowledge and awareness on how to address the mental health needs of the constituents with similar illnesses in the barangay.
Mental Health Program and Services as well as the Mental Health Referral System of the LGU Pilar was discussed by PDAO Focal Person Mr. Ronel R. Esquibel.
Through the advocacy of raising mental health awareness, LGU Pilar thru the collaborative efforts of the offices of MSWD, MHO, and MDRRMO ensures that mental health awareness campaigns reached the community to disseminate helpful information regarding mental health to further reduce the existing stigma around it.
Additionally, the aforementioned activity was done to recognize the role of the Punong Barangays and SK Chairpersons in enhancing mental health promotion and to support people with mental health conditions. (Pilar PIO)
